March

6th - John Santos, doryman on The Adventure, tried the impossible when he attempted to swim aboard after his dory was overturned, despite the fact that he was heavily weighted down with his oilskins, and high boots.  He was drowned before the very eyes of his dorymates, who were powerless to aid him.


April

28th - Benjamin Goddard, 54 years of Gloucester, was lost from his vessel, local sch. The Laura Goulart.


November

12th -Six Gloucester men went to their doom when the 55-foot auxiliary gill netting boat  The Virginia and Joan II, believed heavily loaded with pollock, was unable to withstand the onslaught of a gale in Ipswich bay.
