After drifting helplessly in two dories in a thick fog, the nine members of the crew of The Exeter were rescued by the crew of the Boston beam trawler Illinois, near the spot, 50 miles south of Cape Sable where the ship had burst into flames.


January

17th - Losing his balance when a heavy sea struck the boat, one man was thrown overboard and drowned on Georges bank from the Boston boat The Flow.


February

17th - One man was swept to death, all 12 dories smashed, the entire starboard rail from the forerigging aft ripped away, and damage to the extent of $10,000 done to The Raymonde  before she righted herself an hour later.


March

27th - One man was washed overboard when his dory capsized in rough weather on Grand Banks from The Joffre.


August

4th - Hurled 60 feet, from masthead to the deck, caused instant death to a crewman aboard the  sch. The Doris M. Hawes, while swordfishing 200 miles southeast half south of Eastern Point, when the top of the mast broke off, 15 feet from the top.


December

12th - Two young men and a mongrel dog on their first salt water fishing trip were given up by the authorities as lost at sea.
