Sch. Two Forty lost in January on Seal Island while on her homeward passage from Grand Banks.  Crew saved.
John Peterson lost overboard from sch. Tivano. 
Capt. John Powers lost from sch. Yo Semite.
Capt. William Jeffrey and John Phalen lost from sch. Henry A. Johnson.

9th - Sch. Edith Wonson lost on Western Banks, crew of thirteen men lost.


February

Sch. Hiawatha lost in February, crew of   ten men lost.
Sch. E. L. Cook lost in February, crew of  eleven men lost.

5th - Sch. Angie Friend was capsized and sunk in Boston harbor and John Logue was drowned.   Vessel was later raised and repaired.

8th - Sch. Ocean Bride lost off Brace's Cove, crew saved.  Owned by John and Jesse McCloud.

11th - John Tucker lost overboard from sch. J. J. Burns.

25th - George Rackham lost overboard from sch. Rebecca Bartlett.


March

24th - William McGuire lost from sch. William H. Thurston.

25th - Stephen Nelson and Charles Anderson lost from sch. Mary Carlisle.


April

Sch. Arab was lost off Cape Cod, crew saved.

2nd - Sch. A. F. Lindberg lost with crew of eleven men. 
Sch. Seaman's Pride lost with crew of ten men. 
Sch. William Murray lost with crew of eleven men. 
Sch. B. K. Hough lost with crew of ten men.  
James Hunt lost from sch. Amos Cutter. 
John J. Collins
lost from sch. George O. Hovey. 
James Manning
lost from sch. Adelia Hartwell.

21st - Sch. Samuel E. Sawyer lost at Sandy Hook, M.  I. while on a herring voyage to Magdalen Islands. Crew saved.


May

George Searle and Nicholas Wilson lost from sch. B. F. Somes.

and Thomas Mackay lost from sch. M. L. Wetherell. 
Henry Beaton
and John Steward lost from sch. Laura Burnham. 
Reuben Mayo 
lost from sch. Alaska.


June

5th - Joseph Plaimenta, lost from sch. E. L. Rose, off Dennisport.


July

Patrick McGinnis and Joseph (or Jasper) Quinn were lost overboard from sch. Glenwood at the Bay.


August

Schooner Exchange lost at Cow bay, while on a trip to Western Bank.  Crew saved.


September

Sch. Sachem lost, crew saved. 
Sch. Eisnieur, engaged in the Bay of St. Lawrence mackerel fishery, went ashore at Argyle.   She was got off and repaired, but subsequently burnt on her passage home. 
Eddie Wharf, son of Capt. Eliphalet Wharf, from sch. Sarah C. Wharf, lost at sea in September.

1st - Sch. Edward A. Horton seized by Canadian officials for fishing inside the three-mile limit.

2nd - Sch. Montrose lost with crew of eight men. 
Sch. Emporia lost with crew of nine men.


October

12th - Sch. Fitz E. Riggs lost with crew of nine men.

15th - Sch. Lizzie A. Tarr lost off Manitau on Labrador shore; crew saved.


November

Laers Peterson lost from sch. Mary Carlisle.   Finley McFadden lost from sch. M. L. Wetherell.


December

5th - Thomas Hamilton lost from sch. George H. Pierson.
